flag design contest - rules & guidelines
Eligibility
The contest is open to all residents of the Village of New Berlin and any registered student of Community Unit School District #16. Anyone under the age of 18 that wishes to participate will need to submit the form with a signature of a parent/legal guardian.
Design guidelines
Designs must include original artwork and not infringe on any copyrights or trademarks, and should be appropriate for display in a public place. Designs must be scalable and simple enough to be recognizable from a distance. More information about best practices for flag design can be found below.

If submitting digital designs, please be sure that designs have an aspect ratio of 3:5, and are saved as .PDF or .JPEG files. Digital designs can be emailed to:
selection criteria
A panel of judges appointed by the Village Board will review submissions and vote for finalists. The winning design will be adopted as the official Village flag, but may be refined professionally before adoption. By submitting a design, participants grant the Village of New Berlin the right to reproduce, display, and modify their design for official use. The Village reserves the right not to select a winning design if none meets the desired criteria.
Prizes
The winning design will be officially adopted as the new Village flag. The designer will be recognized at a Village Board meeting, featured in local media, and will receive a brand-new 55" Insignia Class F50 Series LED 4K UHD Smart Fire TV.
Timeline
Submission deadline is September 19, 2025.
Winners will be announced by October 31, 2025.
